Welcome to the Clark County, Wisconsin Pioneer Families Pages.

We will be adding to our Clark County Pioneer Family collections, so please check back every so often to see whats new. If you just found us, we hope you find the information you are looking for. If you arrived here from our former home on AT&T, welcome back. We ran out of space on AT&T and decided to expand so we could include more pictures and families from our Clark County Pioneer Familiy ancestors. Take your time and browse the various pages.

If you have family from Clark County, Wisconsin, check out the Clark County History Site. This site is maintained by volunteers who have families that lived or are still living in Clark County.

Some of the Franz, Decker and Wessel families settled in the Greenwood, Wisconsin area and cleared the land for farming. They were some of the first pioneer families in the Greenwood area. They helped form the local Reformed Church. Others from the families stayed in the Sheboygan area and farmed and raised families there. One Franz brother moved to the Dakotas. The Arnhoelter Family is predominent in Sheboygan County and also in Indiana. The Kippenhan family came to Clark County and then spread out from there. The Schwarze Family came through Dodge County. Some of the family stayed in Dodge County while others moved to Clark County and the Greenwood area. The Wessel family came to Clark County through Sheboygan County. Most of the brothers of the family moved to Clark County while the daughters married and stayed in Sheboygan County.

If you have family information that you would like to share or add, you can email me at Allan Wessel.

Research History

I started researching my family history in the 1990's with my parents families (Franz and Decker). As this expanded I kepted adding more families to the history. My information has come from many sources. Initially it came from my mother and aunts and uncles. Since much of this was not substaniated by any records, I started to research the records of Clark County. Since many of my relatives came through Sheboygan, I also researched the Sheboygan County records.

In the early 1990's I was able to information on our German Franz ancestors. This information confirmed that the families from Clark County and the Sheboygan and Dakota families were related through the brothers who came over from Germany.

The Bethel family is from my wifes side. They came from England via Pennsylvania and then settled in Wisconsin and Iowa. The Wisconsin contingent settled originally in Dane County and then spread out into the northern part of the state also, working in the lumbering industry.
